Plus, the old-fashioned chips remind visitors of traditional seaside fish and chip shops, adding to the nostalgic feel. Accessible facilities and friendly staff enhance the overall dining experience, making it a must-visit for families and groups.
Despite all its charm, some visitors note that certain times are busier than others, making wait times longer than anticipated, especially on Fridays. The interior can feel cramped during peak times, which can be uncomfortable for those dining in.
Some have also pointed out that while the chips are mostly great, there are occasional critiques about their consistency, with some diners wanting a little extra crunch. Lastly, the cash-only payment policy can be a hassle for those used to card payments, so bringing cash is crucial before stopping by.
Very nice fish and Chips! Would definitely go here again. I had the chicken nuggets, curry sauce, fish and chips. The chicken nuggets go splendid with the curry sauce! Give that a try. The fish was nicely made, although, I'd say the chips is needed a little bit work on.
Have been trying to get a fish from here for ages, but have always been thwarted by work hours and their opening time..Not today! Finally got in to see what all the fuss was about and was not disappointed. Huge fish (might have been a small whale) and delicious old fashioned style chips. Absolutely delicious and very filling. Best I've had in Hartlepool by far. Regular visitors now and never disappointed.
We walked just over 3 miles from the marina side as we had read good reviews about this chippy and we really fancied fish and chips by the sea. During the walk we didn't pass another person, but turning the final corner we were greeted by a line of people queuing down the pavement! The queue moved very quickly as the staffed worked very efficiently. I have to say it was worth the walk and wait as the fish and chips were fantastic and the fish was a really good size.
Best fish and chips by far..! I've tried plenty places and this is the nicest I've had and big portions. Plus right next to the marina so lovely views
Good Friday. Que was not too long . They had a system so went down quickly... fish & chips with curry . Wow was beautiful... fish was so white and fluffy ... will return
My favourite fish and chips ever. Better than anywhere in Whitby or the north east as a whole. For me and my family verills provide the light when you are going through those dark weeks, especially in winter. The curry sauce is the best I’ve ever had with the perfect blend of spicy savouriness. The chips are unique and have that old fashioned darker skin which is hard to find. Fish is fresh with succulent meat and fluffy yet crispy batter. Love the fact it’s cash only, the new generation need to be able to count their change to keep their minds sharp away from their phones. Apart from my family and friends this place is the only reason I come back to the town.
We were recommended Verrills by some friends, so called as we were only 10 mins away. We parked just behind the chippy there was loads of space. When we got there we saw a queue of about 4 people outside and maybe 8 inside. The queue when down very quickly and the service was excellent. We got our fish chips and mushy peas and sat in the little park over the road to eat them, as many others were doing. The fish was massive, thick and fresh with lovely crispy batter, the chips were scrummy and not greasy, and proper mushy peas, and lovely scraps. I would happily drive 30 mins from home to go there.
